Public Declaration of Recusal
As required under the Conflict of Interest Act
Statutory requirement(s):
25. (1) If a reporting public office holder has recused himself or herself to avoid a conflict of interest, the reporting public officeholder shall, within 60 days after the day on which the recusal took place, make a public declaration of the recusal that provides sufficient detail to identify the conflict of interest that was avoided.
51. (1) The Commissioner shall maintain a registry consisting of the following documents for examination by the public:

In the exercise of my official duties as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, I recused myself on May 16, 2024, from participating in any discussion or decision regarding the appointment of a Judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in order to avoid any appearance of preferential treatment or any opportunity to further the private interest of my friend, Ms. Linda Shin.
