The Conflict of Interest Act has one provision that explicitly addresses fundraising.
Under section 16, you are not allowed to personally solicit funds from any person or organization if doing so would put you in a conflict of interest.
For example, you must not:
- Use departmental resources for fundraising
- Solicit funds from a person or organization that you, your office or your organization have had or is likely to have official dealings with
- Solicit funds from a person or organization that has lobbied or is likely to lobby you, your office or your organization
- Set up a charitable foundation for the purpose of raising money to specifically benefit your private interests or those of a relative or friend
- Identify yourself as a public office holder when soliciting funds on behalf of a charitable foundation
