Rules for reporting public office holders

Travel

Travel is subject to the Act’s acceptability test for gifts or other advantages. Please consult the “Gifts” section for more information.

If you are a ministerial adviser or staffer, some additional rules apply to you. You are prohibited from accepting travel on non-commercial chartered or private aircraft for any purpose unless required in your capacity as a public office holder, in exceptional circumstances, or with the Commissioner’s prior approval.

Ministers and parliamentary secretaries must publicly declare travel on non-commercial chartered or private aircraft accepted for themselves, their families, ministerial staff or advisers within 30 days after the travel.

Educational sessions offered by the Commissioner’s Office can help you understand the Act’s travel rules. Your advisor in the Commissioner’s Office can also help. Please call 613-995-0721 or send us an email.
